Tips for City Development
You must wonder "Where should I start?" or "How can I develop a city?" if you have never played "A-train" series before. To begin, we recommend you develop a city by following the steps below: ・Understand city's characteristics ▼ ・Create people flows, materials, electricity ▼ ・Take measures to make a profit ▼ ・Develop an area along the railroad lines after earning enough funds |
||||||
Understand City's Characteristics
First, take a look and understand the whole city by moving the camera. [Where to check] ・Station Locations ・Factory and Port Locations where materials are made ・Areas with many buildings where people gather In addition, "Fund", "Owned subsidiaries", and "Electricity generation capacity of the city" are good to check in the beginning. You can find "Electricity generation capacity of the city" in [Report] , "Owned subsidiaries" in [Market]. As "Fund" is always displayed on the bottom of the game screen, please be careful not to reduce your fund less than 0. |

Create People Flows, Materials, Electricity
Now that we understand the city's characteristic, let's move on to development. There are 3 necessary elements for development ; "People Flows", "Materials" and "Electricity". If any one of those lacks, the city will not develop, so if you can not supply it, take measures accordingly. [How to make people flows] "People Flow" is made by connecting stations with railroads and operating a train. You can develop a station effectively when you connect a station where you intend to gather people with a station whose surrounding is already developed, and riveting for people.Roads, bus stops and buses can help creating people flows as well as railroads. Though road transport costs less than rail transport does, the number of passengers is also small. So road transport is more suitable for backing up the development around a station or along railroad lines. [How to make materials] Materials are needed to construct all buildings except for stations, railroads, roads, materials factories. Although material factories automatically produce materials, you can't use the materials. You can access them within the premises of the factories unless you bring them into another container by using a freight or truck. You can also buy materials in a neighboring town by constructing a port or connecting a railroad track and operating freight to there. [How to make electricity] Electricity is necessary for city development. After building power plants, electricity will be automatically supplied. If you don't supply electricity, there won't be any lights in the city at night, which does not help gathering people. You can check the electricity demand and the current power supply for the whole city in [Energy Data] from [Report]. If a power supply is not enough, build more power plants. |

Take Measures to Make a Profit
Let's think on how to make a profit once completing a first step for development. You need to cut waste to make a profit. Check the property condition such as transportation facilities and subsidiaries, and if there's any waste, take measures to reduce it. [Is a selected train or bus appropriate for the numbers of passengers?] Basically, the longer a train formation is, the more the service costs. If the actual passengers are considerably less than the maximum number of passengers, the operating cost can't be covered by the fare revenue which means the service may be in the red. In that case, please try to reduce the cost by changing the type of train or the number of cars. Try changing the type of bus if it's a bus case. [Do not let trains and buses run unnecessary] If you follow a train or bus from morning till night, you'll find out at certain times of a day when many/few passengers use the service. Noticeably, fewer passengers use the train or bus in the midnight hour compared to other times. You can reduce costs by stopping the midnight transportation service. [Are there too much building materials/electricity being produced?] You'll make money by actually selling materials or electricity produced in materials factories or power plants. In other words, if you can't sell all the production, only the cost is incurred to produce. Consider the appropriate numbers of factories, and power plants when you build. [Does your subsidiary make a profit?] If your subsidiary constantly gets in the red, you might want to sell the subsidiary to pay off a deficit since it's possible to sell unlike material factories or power plants. |
